NEW Chevrolet 348 409 Intake Manifold
Aluminum, 4 barrel, high rise, single plane, "isolated plenum" design !!!
For ALL 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965 Chevrolet 348 & 409 "W Engines"... using regular "817", "147" , "333" , "379" etc. small port cylinder heads... the
and, for factory "690" / "583" large port, as well as the high performance aluminum cylinder heads manufactured by Bob Walla Racing, (available right here), or Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads... the
After ALL this time... here it is, installed on Aubrey's 409 4 speed station wagon.
So how does it run ? ( appearance is OBVIOUS ! )
you can RIDE INSIDE the 1963 Parisienne Safari, using the very first
Speed-PORT 6000 intake manifold !
A 409 engine was prepared, and we on April 9 2013, we went to Lacombe, Alberta, for dyno testing. We compared the factory 340 HP 409 manifold, the Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold, and finally, the Speed-PORT 6000 .
specs on the test engine:
An all standard size 1963 Chevrolet "QB" 409 short block.. re-ringed 7 years ago ( so she's a little tired... prone to some leak down ! ), with lightened factory forged pistons. Compression ratio is 10.4:1. Using ported "333" small port cylinder heads with 2.06" / 1.735" Manley valves. Camshaft is the very popular A Bruneau Performance mechanical flat tappet grind, our part number M242595D, manufactured by Comp Cams. Net left at valve, .565" / .578", 242 / 246 duration @ .050", on a 108 lobe center sep. Using a set of Belanger design headers by Wilson Header Manufacturing... 1 7/8" X 36" primaries, with 3"collector lengthened to 16".
HERE ARE THE DYNO RESULTS:

Basic characteristics, application recommendations:
Small port ( "6000" ):
Will accommodate Carter / Edelbrock "AFB" style, and Holley 4150 / 4160 style carburetors. Will clear factory hoods on 1958-1964 Chevrolet and Canadian Pontiac full size passenger cars, when used with a large diameter, low profile air cleaner, such as offered by Moroso.
It is recommended for high performance 348 to 420 cubic inch (CID) engines. The RPM range for maximum efficiency is highly contingent on CID. Generally speaking, engines in the 348 to 385 CID range, will achieve maximum power and efficiency from 3000 to 6500 RPM. The larger engines, nearer 2500 to 6000 RPM. A minimum actual compression ratio of 9.5:1 is recommended.
Large port ( "6500" & "7000" )
Will accommodate Carter / Edelbrock "AFB" style, and Holley 4150 / 4160 style carburetors. In testing, we have found the best combinations ro be 750 - 850 CFM for street use, and up to 950 CFM for larger CID, fully prepared race oriented engines. The factory dual snorkel air cleaner WILL NOT CLEAR the factory hoods on 1958-1964 Chevrolet and Canadian Pontiac full size passenger cars. The 14" unit offered by Moroso, is highly recommended.
The "6500" is the genuinely streetable single plane manifold, recommended for high performance 380 to 474 cubic inch (CID) engines. Again, the RPM range for maximum efficiency is highly contingent on CID. Generally speaking, engines in the 380 to 425 CID range, will achieve maximum power and efficiency from about 3300 to 6700+ RPM. The larger engines... including the popular 474 to 496 CID strokers, nearer 3000 to 6500 RPM. A minimum actual compression ratio of 10:1 is recommended.
The "7000" is the ultimate performance, standard port location, 4 barrel intake manifold available. Inteneded for engine with a minimum of 400 CID. Best performance range is 3500 - 7000+ RPM, depending on actual cubic inches.
Each manifold will be delivered with stainless steel hardware, and an assortment of fittings for coolant and vacuum connections.
